Dozens of Congress members under investigation

Front page of the WaPo today:

House ethics investigators have been scrutinizing the activities of more than 30 lawmakers and several aides in inquiries about issues including defense lobbying and corporate influence peddling, according to a confidential House ethics committee report prepared in July.

More details to follow, but the Post initially names:

Democrats: John Murtha of Pennsylvania, Peter Visclosky of Indiana, James Moran of Virginia, Norm Dicks of Washington and Marcy Kaptur of Ohio

Republicans: Todd Tiahrt of Kansas and C. W. Bill Young of Florida.

I think this is going to be huge.

This is still preliminary so someone’s name on this list is not definitive proof of corruption of influence peddling.

Still, it’s political effects will be felt immediately. Todd Tiahrt is trying to replace Sam Brownback in the Senate and no doubt it will play a role in that state’s GOP primary.
