Sure, the former Alaska Governor has gotten a raw deal from much of the national press, but Sarah Palin hasn’t helped herself with continual scheduling blunders and needless media spats. If anything these events further play into the narrative of Sarah Palin being a not-ready-for-prime-time candidate.
First there was the question over whether or not Palin was going to attend a joint NRCC/NRSC fundraiser in the spring. She was in, then out, then back in, then out and then she showed up but didn’t have a big role in the event. All of this was under the watchful eye of the national media. Next came the David Letterman spat. While the Late Show host went over the line, Palin’s multiple responses drew their own fair share of criticism.
Now, not only has Palin abruptly resigned office which raised a whole host of separate issues, but she’s once again gotten herself into a public scheduling dispute. According to the organizers for a GOP womens’ event next week in CA, Palin was set to make an appearance (her name was on the invitation). Palin changed her mind, however, and decided against showing up which forced the organizers to send out an apology to donors.
The latest Palin-media adventure takes the cake. An Alaskan blog posted an item alleging that Sarah Palin and her husband were getting a divorce. Palin immediately issued a statement denying that she and Todd were separating. What was a little story on an obscure website was blown up by the former Governor’s focus on the matter and various national media outlets have picked it up.
One can only imagine what the coming months will bring Sarah Palin. One can only imagine as well why so many Republicans would want this character as the leader for the GOP.
I idolize Sarah Palin because she is a woman with very strong character. She has also lots of accomplishments in the area of public service.^^
