Further solidifying its reputation – at least in my book – as the best political site on the Web, Politico has a great story up today on the future of the Republican Party. By their estimation, the leadership of the GOP is going to come mainly from young members of the House of Representatives, such as Eric Cantor (VA), Paul Ryan (WI), and Kevin McCarty (CA). They’re crafting a long-term strategy based on winning more middle class votes through greater emphasis on economic issues, including healthcare and entitlement programs.
As a Republican disgusted by the loss of purpose and integrity during the House majority years, I’m thrilled to see a long-term plan in place, with quality leaders at the helm. I’m under no illusions that Republicans have a shot this year, but this gives me hope that they’ll build their numbers in the coming elections and go forward with a principled plan for effective governance.
