Could the McCain campaign have been any more successful at upstaging Obama, just the morning after his remarkable acceptance speech? From what I’ve seen on television this morning, McCain has absolutely dominated the discussion. I’d put the ratio, with no exaggeration, at about 5 to 1.
The rollout for this pick could not be any more of a contrast to the clumsy way the Obama campaign announced Biden. They controlled the leaks well, trickling out headlines about Romney, Pawlenty, maybe Palin, and definitely Palin, all throughout last night and this morning. And they allowed the news to break early enough in the day for everyone to talk about it at the water cooler but not so late that they had mentally checked out at work.
For a campaign that was dogged by charges of incompetence for so long, the McCain campaign has really shaped up between its skilled negative campaign against Obama and the dramatic vice presidential announcement.
