Not a huge point but worth noting. I just watched McCain come out for his big speech in Dayton, and I have never heard such a raucous reception for him. The people there seem genuinely energized. This is pure speculation, but my guess is that the Palin pick has really put a charge into Republicans. Between observing this and hearing early feedback from Republican elites, the base seems elated over the Palin pick.

I noticed that, too. I wasn’t expecting that big of a reaction, or that many people in the place frankly.
Also, I need to go back an listen, but I’m pretty sure that McCain said his choice for veep would “put their interests before the needs of the people.” Oops if he did say that.
