Local news report from Alaska on the investigation into Palin’s potential abuse of her office:
It’s unclear at this point how far this will go. I have no doubt the McCain campaign vetted the trooper scandal heavily so there probably isn’t much more to find out. Still, as long as the matter remains open and the investigation continues it will put at least a small cloud over the new GOP ticket.

Even if Palin was protecting her sister-in-law in this matter or did nothing illegal, she clearly seems to have lied about it to the press. That in itself seems to be a problem.
Hmmm….
Well, obviously Democrats are going to make something of a big deal about this. In any case, Palin hasn’t done herself – or McCain – any favors by appearing inconsistent in this matter. I’m not sure how many political points it will net us though.
The biggest surprise of this story is that Alaska has buildings.*
Also, Palin refers to the bootlegging problem in “rural Alaska.” For some reason, I was under the impression that 99% of Alaska was…uh…rural.
*I apologize in advance to any Alaskans that may be reading this blog for this ignorant and unfair statement.
Alaskans’ idea of what is ‘rural’ is very, very different from what we in the Lower 48 tend to think of as rural.
