Beer Review: Hoegaarden

Giving into peer pressure I recently decided to order a Hoegaarden over my standard beer of choice Heineken. I was pleasantly surprised with the brew. It’s still pretty chilly in my corner of the world, but the light and crisp taste of this beer was very refreshing. I can already predict that this won’t be my last Hoegaarden before the spring and summer are up.

First off the beer looks the part of a summer brew. It’s got a nice yellow haze color with a small white head. Hoegaarden’s smell is a distinct and sharp lemon flavor, heavy on citrus. While its body is light (almost to the point of being watery) its taste is a solid bready blend of wheat and a sweet citrus flavor. The finish is clean without any bitter or off putting aftertaste.

Overall I enjoyed Hoegaarden. My only drawback would be that it’s still cold out so something a little fuller might have been more appropriate for the time of year. That said on a blistering July day at the beach this would be a great choice for the cooler.
