Beer Review: Anderson Valley Brewing Company’s “High Rollers” Wheat Beer

I’ve sampled roughly a dozen of Anderson Valley’s brews, and I feel no hesitation in naming AVBC my current favorite brewing company. However, before this weekend, I’d never chanced upon their “High Rollers” Wheat Beer. AVBC’s seasonal wheat beer pours an orangey amber color with very little head. It’s also crystal clear, unlike most wheat beers, which tend be clouded with sediment.

This is a pleasant, thirst-quenching brew. Its tart aroma translates pretty effectively into its citrusy flavor, which thankfully isn’t too sweet. Like most wheat beers, it’s lacking in the body and hops departments, but not as badly as many comparable brews. High Rollers Wheat Beer is above-average for its genre, but not one of AVBC’s best brews. For context, I’ll say it’s better than Gordon Biersch’s offering, but not as good as a Franziskaner. I’d give it 78 points out of 100.
